Illusion Weaver - Adapting a creature of Netflix "Love, Death + Robots" to CoC

ILLUSION WEAVER

Lesses Independent Race

"There are strange things in the universe... if the human race only imagined what exists there, they would never try to touch the stars."

Deep space is rich in unusual beings and strange life forms.

Some are simply too alien to our standards and too bizarre to establish with us any kind of interaction. Others, however strange as they appear, create some kind of intimate bond with the human race, sometimes in an insidious, unhealthy and disturbing way. It is possible that the beings known as "Weavers of Illusions", are among the most unusual life forms we have ever had the misfortune to come cross.

Also known as "Deceivers" (for reasons we will see below), such rare creatures can be encountered in deep space, inhabiting abandoned space stations, drifting starships or mining bases. Sometimes they can also establish themselves on the surface of planets and moons, preferably without atmosphere and with low natural light. Its presence is uncommon in densely populated environments.

The Weavers of Illusions are a kind of psychic parasite that feeds on the different emotional stimuli of its victims. Contact with conscious species is therefore essential to them. Happiness, sadness, fear, desire, pleasure, courage ... each feeling has a different "taste" for spiders and they feel compelled to awaken such emotions, thus enabling them to enjoy them. Some of them experience different emotions until they find the one that fills their favorite palate. To absorb these sensations, which cause them an intoxicating euphoria, they utilize their latent psychic powers. It is speculated that some spiders become addicted to such emotions and need to absorb them more and more frequently.

Each creature lives alone and nothing is known about its mating habits. They capture their prey aboard starships on little-used routes or remote stations. They then transport the individuals to their nest; the ideal environment in which they enjoy the emotions of others. In general, this nest is a tangle of psycho-sensitive webs that serve as neuro-conductors of psychic energy. In different parts of the cache can be found cocoons where the prey are kept in a state of suspended animation. During this state, the spider establishes with the prey a psychic link in which it reads its mind in search of fragments of memory to construct the most convenient and desirable fantasy. And this is what derives the nickname "Weaver of Illusions".

Once accessing the most intimate fantasies, the Spider builds a ilusory reality in which the prey is involved. According to the feeling that the Weaver wants to provoke, the illusion develops, generating extremely realistic simulations. A spider who wants to feed on fear, for example, can seek the most intimate terrors of its prey and stage them indefinitely. Another who wants to feed on love can generate the illusion of the presence of the family and loved ones, reenacting familiar situations. A third, looking for pleasure, can create an illusion full of passion and lust. In all illusions, the spider assumes the role of protagonist, changing the perception of the prey so that it perceives it in a desirable way.

A spider can keep several people under its influence, but manages to control only one illusion at a time. Sometimes the illusion begins to become repetitive or exaggerated, which leads to a doubt in the mind of the prey. If he begins to question itself about the reality in which it is inserted, the illusion tends to collapse. In this case the understanding of what actually happened may be unbearable to the mind of the prey and it ends up collapsing. Some end up giving themselves over to the creature, accepting to live in the Illusion rather than awakening to reality.

The prey are kept in bio-organic cocoons woven by the creature itself and connected by silvery web-like filaments. They sleep during the whole duration of the Illusory Experience, but can be awakened abruptly. Since Spiders do not understand the needs of other life forms, they may end up expiring due to hunger, thirst, lack of air or cold inside the cocoon. Freshly awakened prey find themselves in a frail condition. Older spiders learn to preserve their victims by providing nutrients and the ideal conditions to maintain their existence, thus prolonging their life to the fullest.

It is curious that some spiders develop a kind of relationship with their prey, a kind of commensalism, relation in which the two species enjoy advantages offered by one another. In this sense, however bizarre, this may sound, spiders establish a bond and begin to demonstrate to their prey legitimate emotions of caring, concern and even love.

Although refered as "spiders," these beings are not exactly arachnids, at least not like those on Earth. Their bodies are formed by a cartilaginous structure endowed with six legs responsible for the locomotion. Two other members in the upper structure of his body, similar to a torso, are used for manipulation and to spin the webs produced. The head is located in the intercession between the legs and the torso, with the mouth and at least two dozen of eyes. The creature has no nasal or auditory fossae and it is not known whether it is endowed with senses of hearing and smell, although the spider must possess other senses unique to its species.

The Weaver's brain, spread over six hemispheres, is housed in a fibrous hump at the junction of the trunk and head. This area is protected by a resilient muscle tissue, which some say resembles a human head, although a careful inspection will verify that it is just a coincidence. This extremely powerful brain is the source of the Weaver's psychic faculties, responsible for creating illusions and absorbing the resulting emotions.

Despite having a large, sturdy body, Spiders rarely engage in physical disputes and prefer to move away from potential enemies. His most efficient form of defense involves extremely powerful psychic bursts that can overload in the human brain.
